Flying Blue cuts award prices on transatlantic routes by up to 25%
Air France-KLM's monthly promo rewards discount award seats between major US cities and Europe, with booking open until 30 September and travel through February.
Air France-KLM has published this month's Flying Blue Promo Rewards, the rolling discount the programme applies to a rotating set of routes, and the September list is unusually strong on transatlantic flying.
Award seats between selected United States cities and Europe are discounted by up to 25 percent against the standard mileage price. New York, Chicago and San Francisco all appear on the eligible list.
The booking window
Two dates govern the offer, and they are not the same date:
- Book by 30 September 2026. The discount applies to tickets issued inside the promotional month.
- Travel by 28 February 2027. The journey itself must be completed within that window.
That five-month travel window is wider than the promotion usually offers, which makes this month's list more useful than a typical Promo Rewards drop. It covers the whole European low season, including the January and February weeks when cash fares on the same routes are already soft.
How the discount actually behaves
Promo Rewards discount the mileage component of an award ticket. They do not discount the taxes, carrier charges and surcharges collected in cash, which on Air France and KLM long-haul awards can run to a meaningful sum. A 25 percent cut on the miles is not a 25 percent cut on what leaves your account and your card.
The discount is applied to a subset of routes and cabins, and availability is drawn from the same award inventory as the undiscounted price. A route on the list with no award seats open is not a deal.
Who this suits
The offer rewards flexibility more than planning. Because the eligible city pairs rotate every month and the discount only attaches to seats the airline was already releasing, the travellers who extract the most from Promo Rewards are the ones deciding where to go after seeing the list, rather than the ones checking whether a fixed itinerary happens to qualify.
Points transfers
Flying Blue is a transfer partner of several major bank point currencies, which means the discounted awards are reachable without ever flying Air France or KLM. Transfers are generally one-way and irreversible, so the working order is to confirm the award seat is bookable first and move the points second.
The wider pattern
Monthly promotional award pricing has become standard practice across European loyalty programmes. It gives airlines a lever to steer redemptions towards flights that would otherwise depart with empty premium cabins, and it gives members a reason to check the programme every month rather than once a year. The trade is that the discount is never where you want it — it is where the airline needs it.
